Speedify VPN Review – Is It Safe in 2024

We offer comprehensive reviews about various VPN providers for users who desire to level up the quality of their web usage. At first glance, it may seem that you can read all the information on your own from the provider’s website, but there is a tricky nuance.

Companies write their best on the front pages, involving marketing techniques to make texts more attractive. However, often, these presentations do not reflect the genuine state of affairs. As the outcome, you can obtain just not what you wanted.

We believe that the majority of common citizens do not have much time to conduct in-depth investigations to reveal the pitfalls hidden in the massive textual canvas of the privacy policy or to explore the technical stuff embedded in the VPN software. Hence, we took this job to our side and continuously posted reviews about the free providers on freevpnmentor.com.

Here you will find all the essential details about VPN providers, composed into clear formulations that do not jump over your head. We hope our work will bring you valuable insights to make a better choice.

Pros
  • Large amount of free locations
  • Live support answers quickly
  • MacOS application perform decent speed results
Cons
  • Privacy Policy has significant gaps
  • Only 2 gb of monthly bandwidth
  • Low speed results on Windows app
  • Low speed results on Android app
  • Deprecated protocols
  • No extensions for browsers
  • Provider does not work in countries with strict boundaries of web usage

Speedify VPN Features

We have discovered all the distributions of the current company and will reveal to you in the review all the main characteristics of the software.

The software is designed for three popular desktop platforms and two mobile operating systems; browser extensions are excluded from this list.

While investigating the application, we saw that the provider considered the possibility of adjusting security configurations inside the apps, selecting distinct locations, and using the limited bandwidth for the free version.

All the applications have approximately similar security options, the general app’s configurations, and an identical design. All the precise details you will meet in the next sections.

Privacy and Logging

VPN services have privacy policy pages on their websites where they gather all their principles and approaches regarding keeping, selling, or sharing the users data. We examined the privacy statements of the current provider and highlighted all the important points.

Connectify brand instead Speedily
We did not understand why they used the Connectify brand here.

The first question arises about Connectify: who is that? Also, both Connectify and Speedify names appear in the single paragraph. There was such a feeling that the text was copied and they forgot to change the words. We did not find any more references to Connectify on the website.

Speedify VPN main privacy terms.
Here they presented a short list of how they work.

And again, we see the Connectify brand and do not understand why. Then, the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) does not forbid individuals’ data collection, and, as it is written in the second point, Connectify itself does not deny they collect some amount of information.

As well, they promise not to track your online activity and not to share consumers’ details with third parties. However, who does it promise—Speedify or Connectify? This mystery is still unresolved.

Speedify stores identification data when you use their website
Be ready for the fact that a bunch of valuable data will be stored after you have visited their official website.

In reality, there are no technical grounds to store your IP address for furnishing and displaying website pages. Mentioned data can be stored for other purposes, like tracking website traffic, complying with the law, and personalizing the user experience, but not for displaying the content.

VPN provider keeps users emails and names.
Your email and name will be kept, and your billing details may be collected by third parties.

We do not mark email as a highly valuable asset because we are used to sharing it often while doing various operations on the web. However, in the case of a legal claim, your email address can reveal other details to the government, especially since your name is already out there.

Consumers IP address and device ID are recording by Speedify
These statements are definitely not about privacy.

The IP address and device’s ID are very precise identification data. At the very least, it is enough to get the user’s location. Add here the previously mentioned email and name, and it appears you will share a piece of your individual information.

Users data retention continues for 6 months
Interestingly, do they keep users’ data after they leave the services?

There is a possibility that after you end using Speedify’s service, your data will be stored on their servers for half a year more.

Speedily VPN does not share users data with third parties and does not give access to governments except for legal claims.
This VPN collects your valuable data but promises not to share it.

Even if they do not share your data with third parties, they have partnerships with third-party payment providers who can collect your billing details. And what is the guarantee that they do not share it—only the piece of text inside the privacy policy?

Users can ask the provider to immediately delete their data in case of ending the subscription
Here is an explanation of the recent query about the data retention period.

If you want to end the subscription, you can write to them and ask them to delete all your data. In that case, they will not retain individual details for half a year and will take them down right away.

Speedify VPN connection speed on Windows for two locations
Bounding services for people under a certain age is a very good practice, but how do they control it?

To be an adherent of the age limitation policy is a good position, and we are very curious to know what their preventing mechanisms are to ensure real age verification. We already saw that they collect emails, names, IP addresses, and the device’s ID. Yet, there is no explanation of how they check age, and we did not even meet any pop-ups with a question about age while testing the VPN.

We have discovered all the basics of their privacy approach, and as you see, there are a few dubious moments that attest to an unreliable position if your main point is privacy security.

Speed Tests – How Fast is Speedify VPN

Internet connection speed depends on a VPN a lot. It is a normal event to experience speed deterioration when you connect to the encrypted environment provided by vendors. But the corresponding downgrade varies from brand to brand. The speed loss starts from the point of less than 10% to more than 90%.

We conducted speed checks for Speedify VPN on all OS platforms that are compatible with their software:

  • Windows;
  • MacOS;
  • Android;
  • IOS.

Desktop operating systems will begin the block, continuing with mobiles’ platforms. The current VPN company has not managed to develop extensions for browsers, so we will skip this section.

Each test was undergone under identical conditions, meaning the same internet service provider (ISP), the same speed checker, and the same day and time. As usual, we select one US location and one randomly chosen country from the European region if the provider has enough locations to do it for the free version.

PC Test

Windows

US and French locations were chosen for the test.

A vertical image shows the results of the ISP. The indexes are:

  • download speed is 88.12 mbps;
  • upload speed is 81.90 mbps;
  • ping time is 2 ms.

The top-right image shows the performance of the US server. The indexes are:

  • download speed is 47.28 mbps;
  • upload speed is 22.75 mbps;
  • ping time is 123 ms.

The download speed is about 46% below the ISP speed, and the upload speed is nearly 72% below it too. Ping time has increased from 2 ms to 123 ms.

The bottom-right image shows the performance of the French server. The indexes are:

  • download speed is 52.86 mbps;
  • upload speed is 62.35mbps;
  • ping time is 40 ms.

The download speed has been cut by nearly 40%, the upload speed decreased by 24%, and the ping time increased from 3 ms to 40 ms.

The US server performed very poorly, especially for an upload index. The ping time has increased too much for establishing comfortable real-time connection events like gaming or meetings. The French server also showed not astonishing results, but better for the upload index and ping time.

MacOS

Speedify VPN connection speed on macOS for two locations
 US and Belgian servers.

A vertical image shows the results of the ISP. The indexes are:

  • download speed is 83 mbps;
  • upload speed is 41.1 mbps;
  • ping time is 4 ms.

The top-right image shows the performance of the US server. The indexes are:

  • download speed is 48.6 mbps;
  • upload speed is 32.6 mbps;
  • ping time is 123 ms.

The download speed is approximately 41% below the ISP speed, and the upload speed was worsened by about 21%. Ping time grew from 12 ms to 123 ms.

The bottom-right image shows the performance of the Belgien server. The indexes are:

  • download speed is 68.5 mbps;
  • upload speed is 36.1 mbps;
  • ping time is 40 ms.

The download was downgraded by 17%, the upload speed increased by nearly 7%, and the ping time topped up from 12 ms to 40 ms.

The results of the current operating system are noticeably better than for Windows. The US location had a meaningful downgrade in download index but lost not much on upload speed. The ping time response is quite high to provide seamless real-time traffic.

The Belgien location presented a very decent performance. The download speed rate is within the range of affordable values when the upload speed has even improved. The ping time enables you to enjoy live-time events without hindrances.

Browsers’ Extensions Test

Speedify VPN has not developed the software for browsers yet.

Mobile Test

Android

ISP speed on Android device
This is the ISP speed on the Android device.

  • download speed is 84.4 mbps;
  • upload speed is 82.7 mbps;
  • ping time is 12 ms.
Seedify VPN for Android shows performance for the US location
The VPN connection speed on the German server.

  • download speed is 31.9 mbps;
  • upload speed is 63.3 mbps;
  • ping time is 33 ms.

Download speed is about 62% lower than the ISP speed, and the upload speed is nearly 23% lower. Ping time has increased from 2 ms to 33 ms.

Android Seedify VPN shows performance for the DE location
The VPN connection speed on the US server.

  • download speed is 29.7 mbps;
  • upload speed is 52.8 mbps;
  • ping time is 126 ms.

Download speed is nearly 65% lower, the upload speed is approximately 36% worse, and the ping time has increased from 2 ms to 126 ms.

The overall results are quite low, except for the German upload indexes. But it will not solve the general picture because the download indexes for either geos are very low to ensure efficient data loading. By the way, the ping time index of the US location does not fit the live-time events.

IOS

Seedify VPN for iOS shows performance for the US and PL location
US and PL locations

A vertical image shows the results of the ISP. The indexes are:

  • download speed is 42.1 mbps;
  • upload speed is 48.3 mbps;
  • ping time is 3 ms.

The top-right image shows the performance of the US server. The indexes are:

  • download speed is 22.1 mbps;
  • upload speed is 32.4 mbps;
  • ping time is 121 ms.

The download speed is about 48% below the ISP speed, and the upload speed is nearly 33% lower. Ping time has increased from 3 ms to 121 ms.

The bottom-right image shows the performance of the Polish server. The indexes are:

  • download speed is 33 mbps;
  • upload speed is 43.6 mbps;
  • ping time is 40 ms.

The download speed has been cut by nearly 22%, the upload speed has decreased by approximately 10%, and the ping time has increased from 3 ms to 40 ms.

The iOS app performed poorly for the US server, yet the PL server showed satisfying numbers both for download and upload rates. The ping time is also in the array of acceptable values.

The speed testing block is over, and we are shifting to the next one.

About Safety – How Secure is Speedify VPN?

We observed the settings of every distribution and found that the security measures are almost similar for each platform. Considering that, we will show you an instance of Windows’s applications.

Speedify VPN security settings
Now we will give you a short description of each point.

  • Bonding mode
    • It’s an option with two modes within. One mode makes your connection more speedy; the second one makes it more secure but not so fast.
  • Transport Mode contains four options inside.
    • UDP
      • In short, this setting enables the connection to be faster but less reliable from security and data delivery perspectives;
    • TCP
      • Transmission Control Protocol ensures more reliable data transfer and protection. However, because of its heavy structure, it means a slower connection.
  • TCP Multiple
    • It is a TCP with the ability to be faster in some cases due to the utilization of the different network paths. If your Wi-Fi connection is congested at the moment and hence slow, the data transmission will be switched to the cellular network.
  • Header compression is not a security measure;
  • Jumbo MTU is not a security measure;
  • Pair&Share is not a security measure;
  • Encryption
    • This option is available only for the paid version, enabling users to utilize AES256-GCM or ChaCha20 encryption, depending on the device. And there is no information on what encryption type is used for the free version.
  • DNS servers
    • This feature is also for the paid plan and enables users to connect not to Speedify’s DNS server but to another one.
  • DNS Leak Protection
    • This feature requires you to use a VPN’s DNS server instead of an ISP’s. This mechanism ensures data transmission only through the encrypted VPN tunnel.
  • IP Leak protection
    • If Speedify detects a leak, it will automatically block all traffic from flowing through that leak.
  • Internet Kill Switch
    • In the event of a sudden VPN connection drop-off, Speedify will not permit data transfers through the ISP in order to avoid an unsecured milieu.

This is the main security core for the Speedify application. Android and macOS’s apps have minor distinctions, but they do not change the overall effectiveness.

Desktop Apps

PC applications have an identical visual interface for Windows and macOS platforms.

Main screen of the Speedify VPN for macOS
We checked that both applications possess the same design and interactive elements.

The main screen contains two interactive buttons: the turn-on/off switcher in the right upper corner and the hamburger menu icon in the left upper corner.

Also, there is a field with technical information like the name of your Wi-Fi network and the traffic usage statistics while the VPN is turned on. Within the menu icon, you will find the general app’s settings and security options. Only 2 gb of free bandwidth is available per month for macOS and 2 gb for Windows.

Mobile Apps

The software designed for mobile platforms also has the same visual features for iOS and Android platforms.

Main screen of the Speedify VPN for Android
The same visual interface and the same interaction as on a PC.

All the same as on the desktop version. The main screen contains two interactive buttons: the turn-on/off switcher in the right upper corner and the hamburger menu icon in the left upper corner.

The configurations inside the menu button include a precisely similar set of options as we have described above in the desktop’s block. The bandwidth is also 2 gb per month for the Android device and 2 gb for the iOS gadgets.

Browser Extensions

Speedify VPN does not have the software for the browsers.

Performance

The Windows’s app presented very poor results for both locations. The European region performed a little better, but it does not matter because we compared it between two unsatisfactory outcomes.

The US server of macOS’s app incurs a tangible speed fall for the download index but a little deterioration for the upload index. The ping time is not suitable for live events. Notwithstanding, the results are tangibly better compared to Windows.

The Belgien location of macOS’s program showed a pleasuring output. The download speed fell a little when the upload speed was even better. The ping time is sufficient for live-time events.

The Android’s download indexes for the US and European servers are too low, and the ping time of the US location is not satisfying.

On the iOS application, the US server also works slowly, in contrast to the Polish location. The European region showed decent numbers in all indexes.

A huge problem is the bandwidth of 2 gb per month for one device in the free version. Even a greater performance will not prevail over this failure.

Work in Highly Restricted Countries

We did not find corresponding information about the query on the Speedify’s sources.

Server’s locations

Speedify free VPN servers
This is the general list of Speedify’s locations.

The official website says that their network encompasses 55+ servers in 30+ countries across six global regions.

We approve that the free version provides 30+ countries with even 60+ servers for every application.

What Bonuses Does the Paid Version Offer, and How Much Does It Cost?

For consumers who desire to get more possibilities from the current provider, there are paid subscription plans. Let’s look at what you will obtain from it..

VPN subscription advantages
The list of bonuses for the paid version.

As you see, after purchasing the subscription, you will gain unlimited traffic instead of 2 gb, 5 simultaneously connected devices on one account, and AES256-GCM or ChaCha20 encryption types, as we remember from the security block above.

We can not understand what they mean under ‘Premium Server Access’, because we revealed that all locations are open for the unpaid plan. They also added the point of “Cross Platform Support” and we see it as a fuzzy bonus because we have not found limitations on their website to write them at any desired question.

The first three points from the screenshot do not inspire much trust; while our team was exploring their apps, we found very similar settings that were available in free editions. Maybe they have more features to offer in a paid plan; nonetheless, we can not say about it confidently because there is no word about them. It is called “guess yourself”.

VPN subscription prices
The longer the subscription period, the lower the monthly price.

The monthly price is $14.99, and you can reduce this sum to $7.49 by purchasing the yearly plan for $89.99 in one payment. To be honest, the price is pretty high in both variants; we have seen cheaper prices from other providers with better services.

In addition, they offer a family plan with a yearly subscription of $135–$11.25 per month, or a single-month charge of $22.5.

The team plan depends on the number of members and may have a diverse price range. That is all the information regarding the paid version.

About Support

Every application has a dedicated field inside the menu called “Search for help”. It will redirect you to the website on the knowledge base page with static materials regarding VPN’s questions.

Also, we found on the website the email of the support service and checked it. We received an answer in less than five hours. So if you have sophisticated questions, you can expect to receive assistance from live support.

Speedify VPN Review: Final verdict

This VPN has some valuable features, but our general assessment is very low. At first, their privacy policy means collecting personal data such as an IP address, the device’s ID, email, and name. This scope of information is enough to get more individual, valuable data for prying eyes.

As well, it is weird that they use “Connectify” and “Speedify ”brand names inside one policy. It is a feeling that they just copied text from some resource and missed editing all the data, or maybe they had a rebranding process and again missed editing some data.

Their security suite has some valuable options, but the main assets are deprecated. We are talking about the UDP and TCP protocols. Yes, it is better than any shield; however, there are a lot of competitors on the market who can propose modern protocols such as OpenVPN, IKEv2, WireGuard, and Stealth. These technologies have palpably better protective traits.

The speed test was successful merely for macOS; other platforms showed indeed stingy results. The bandwidth of 2 gb is like a bad joke and deserves an individual “the greatest” rank. Also, you can not use this VPN on browsers because it does not exist.

From the positive consistency, we can highlight a significant amount of available locations for every device and fast live support service.

Summarizing all the facts, we can’t recommend this provider enough in terms of security, speed, and user-friendly aspects.
